Isotta Fraschini: will a legend truly return to La Sarthe?

Presented in Milan on 28 February, after a 74-year break, the LMH Isotta Fraschini named Tipo 6 LMH-Competizione seems to be ready for its return to endurance, and yet the car had not been homologated because by regulation the Hypercars competing in the WEC must be produced by a manufacturer who is a manufacturer of series cars and at the time of the request Isotta Fraschini did not meet this requirement.

Despite this, it’s possible to enroll the car race by race, Isotta Fraschini has considered this possibility and the dream of competing at Le Mans one day remains. For this reason, the team did an impressive job and presented the car made, together with Michelotto.


During the presentation they announced that the intention is to get on track by April, and the first race will be at home: in the Temple of Speed in July.


The idea of the manufacturer based in Lombardy is to make about a dozen road cars per year, the road version of this LMH comes with the name of Type 6 Road, a car quite similar to the competition one, but two places and with some differences in the aerodynamics. Equal weight but reduced power from approximately 1000CV to 979CV, price of €2.750.00 (taxes excluded). Isotta Fraschini already looks at the future and, in the plans for 2026, there is already another road sports car.


The Engine and the Chassis

The LMH of Isotta Fraschini has a V6 turbo engine of 3 liters with 760CV and an electric engine of 272CV, therefore with more than 1000CV in total. The car is made entirely of carbon fiber and weighs less than 1,000kg, the engineering part is made by Michelotto. The hybrid system consists of Williams Advanced Engineering and Bosch components, the gearbox is a 7-speed X-trac all-wheel drive.

The History

Isotta Fraschini was founded in 1900 by brothers Antonio, Oreste and Vincenzo Fraschini, in collaboration with Cesare Isotta, Riccardo Bencetti, Ludovico Prinetti and Paolo Meda. It had been in business for almost 50 years before its return, today: 74 years later, with a new management that sees as president Alessandro Fassina. The Italian car manufacturer, born as a garage for maintenance and sale of Renault cars, is reborn today, after a failed attempt with the T8 and the T12 more than twenty years ago, Today the Isotta Fraschini tries once again its rebirth with the LMH in the hope of competing worldwide.


The Team

Vector Sport will be the team that will follow this, and the next, season of the Italian car. This team, already present in the WEC World Championship since 2022 in the LMP2 category with the #10 car, was born in England in 2021 with the aim of debuting with prototypes thanks to the LMP2 Oreca 07.

The Drivers

As for the drivers, the manufacturer from Lombardy said that they are looking for who will be behind the wheel, hopefully, already from Monza.
