In 2023 many big brands will return to the main category of the World Endurance Championship and IMSA, here's who they are and the Hypercar they will be on track with at the first round of the WEC in Sebring
In 2023 we will see the addition of teams like Ferrari and Porsche to the top category of the World Endurance Championship, to be followed in 2024 by BMW and Lamborghini, with the return of Alpine who will not be seen for a year.
But before we go and analyse each of the cars we will see on track in the upcoming years, we need to know what an Hypercar is: Hypercar was born in 2021 to replace LMP1 category, it is the most important class in the Fia World Endurance Championship and IMSA.
Both prototypes and cars based on road cars can participate in this category, the maximum weight of a car is 1030kg and they must have a total power output of 500kw, between the engine and the hybrid system, if present, only in this category of the championship is the use of this system allowed.

The two types of those cars are: the "Le Mans Hypercar" (LMH) and the "Le Mans Daytona h" (LMDh) that differentiate for technical regulation:
If one chooses to race an LMH car, the car must be designed from scratch. The manufacturer makes the chassis directly and decides whether or not to equip the car with a hybrid system of its choice, in this case it will be front-mounted and therefore the car will have four-wheel drive (only if the hybrid system is present). Next comes the bodywork, which is also chosen and built by the manufacturer.
The LMDh consists of a car that starts with a shared base and a chassis supplied by one of the following manufacturers: Oreca, Dallara, Multimatic and Liger, which the team then has to develop. It was introduced in 2022 and here the use of the hybrid system supplied by Bosch, Williams Advanced Engineering and X-Trac is mandatory. Here, too, it is possible to choose the car's engine and bodywork.
The main aim of these two types of cars is for them to compete in the FIA WEC and IMSA WeatherTech, so they each race both 24h races in their respective championship (Daytona and Le Mans).
This season we have already seen the arrival of a new brand: at Monza Peugeot took to the track with its LMH, but who will be the next to take part in this category?
Ferrari, Porsche and Cadillac will join WEC in 2023, while in 2024 BMW (that in 2023 will only race in IMSA), Lamborghini and the new Alpine.
Fuel and lubricant will be provided by TotalEngines that, in this previous season, introduced its new renewable fuel.
In the coming weeks will be publish on the website an article every Wednesday focused on each car that will compete in these categories, subscribe to our newsletter and don't miss any article about the Hypercar of the future.
